Calling all EPC tri-roadies (and off-roadies)… Make sure to fit in some or all of these great events put on by Without Limits Productions this summer!

Team Adrenalin triathletes, mark your calendars and plan to compete in the club competition at these great races. Both men and women racers collect points throughout the series and contribute to our total club tally. $750 CASH PRIZE!!!

Team Adrenalin members, we need your help! Register as part of the club. 2012 is your year to: travel the state, race your heart out, and help your club earn top honors as the fastest club in all of Colorado!   Athletes will still compete in their age-groups – this is just an additional category to foster some good ol’ fashioned club compeition! Please fill in your club affiliation when entering each of the races. A list of club members will be posted at packet pick-up for each race. If your name is not listed as being a member of your club, notify the registration desk before the race. Changes will not be made on race day.

Here’s How it Works :

There are 5 races and they all count! The Steamboat Olympic, Harvest Moon Half, and Oktoberfest Championship will weight heavier than the first 2 sprints, but the tour is set up to reward consistency as well as speed! -The top 12 athletes on your club team will score points. The top 7 men / top 5 women (If less than 12 from your particular team race then you’ll just bank less points for your team tour total) – The Summer OPEN Sprint and Steamboat Lake Sprint will be scored 30 deep on the mens side and 30 deep on the womens side [Points: 1st place 30 points, 2nd 29 points, 3rd 28 points etc. etc.] – The Steamboat Olympic will be scored 30 deep on the mens side and 30 deep on the womens side [Points will start at 33 for first and go down to 3 points for 30th] – The Harvest Moon Half and Oktoberfest Championship will be scored 30 deep on the mens side and 30 deep on the womens side [Points will start at 35 for first and go down to 5 points for 30th]. We need all Team Adrenalin triathletes to compete (even you “off-road only” guys/gals that don’t normally race the road). No matter how fast or slow you think you are, we want you to participate! To make this even more fun, we will give these 5 events ‘priority status’ for the Team Adrenalin race support so we have a place to hang out after the races as a team and make the most of it. EPC coaches will also be putting together a Group Coaching Plan designed around these events that will be available to follow along with to make sure your training is on track! What better way to build our team spirit and get to race together all season long! This is going to be fun! Get yourself signed up and join the ‘Road Tri’ GROUP in the MEMBERS section of the website.

And to not leave out the ‘cyclist-only’ members, we are also planning Winter Park MTB Series and RME Series events, and Colorado Cup Series events for road racers. This team thing is going to be huge!

A couple of my former adventure racing teammates and I have had an interesting discussion going, sparked by an article written by Matt Fitzgerald on the research of Samuele Marcora. In short, Marcora believes (and has done interesting research that supports his hypothesis) that we make a conscious choice to quit based on our perception of effort. He argues that we rarely reach physical exhaustion, but rather that we mentally give up. It is a fascinating – and, of course, controversial position – but it is definitely worth a read: www.mattfitzgerald.org/html/PDFs/YouAreAQuitter.pdf

I should preface the rest of this post by saying that I am not a researcher and I do not support (because I do not really know) one hypothesis over another. But it fascinates me, and I find it a compelling argument that our mind is a huge part of our performance, within the realm of our physical abilities. Think about it a little as you read the article. As my buddies and I have bounced this topic back and forth, several interesting thoughts have come up:

EPC is forming eight-person teams for the 2011 Winter Park Mountain Bike Series. We are currently looking for riders to make up the teams. We need both men and women, all ability levels are welcome! The only requirements we need from riders are for a commitment to race at least 4 of the 7 events and wear an EPC jersey. Current EPC athletes are encouraged to sign up and if you’re not an EPC athlete yet, what are you waiting for? Join our team, come train with us, and race Winter Park!  Each team requires a “Captain” that will be responsible for email communication between “their” team and the Winter Park event organizers. Captains DO NOT need to race every race. Sign up as a team Captain and you can solicit fellow EPC’ers and friends to build your team. It will be a fun competition between EPC teams as well as the other teams in the series. If you interested in being a Team Captain or a member of an EPC team, email info@epcmultisport.com and let us know. We’ll get you on the list!

Below is the 2011 Winter Park Series Schedule. Just about every race works with the XTERRA schedule without any conflicts. No excuses. This will be great training and great fun! More details from Winter Park below.
