About Cody
Born and raised in the Phoenix area of Arizona Cody was into riding from the beginning, initially with his Big Wheel, then later racing BMX, then getting his first geared mountain bike at the age of nine. Through middle and high-school Cody’s interest were cycling, golf and fly fishing, in that order. Through the school year he would ride and golf around the Phoenix area. Over the summer he would move with his family to the mountians of Flagstaff, Arizona to escape the desert heat, and he would spend his days mountain biking and fly fishing.
Towards the end of high-school Cody got involved in mountain bike racing and decided to focus solely on training to be a professional. In 1998 Cody made the leap towards professional cycling that involved moving to Boulder, Colorado for 8 months of the year and San Diego for the other 4 months as he began working with cycling coach Dr. Arnie Baker.for the next 6 years. This led to racing at the professional level with the teams Schwinn Homegrown in 1998 and SoBe/Headshok in 1999-2000. In 2001 he transitioned to road racing and raced with the Prime Alliance Professional Cycling Team and later in 2002 and 2003 the Excel Sports Road Racing Team.
Before beginning his 2004 season Cody decided to take a break from competitive cycling and went to Culinary Arts School in Boulder. During this time he took the chance to “try a tri” as triathlon racing had always intrigued him. After his first “season” of triathlon (while going to school) in which he competed in an olympic distance race, an Xterra and a half-iron distance race, Cody changed focus from cooking to racing triathlons full-time. In 2006, Cody won an XTERRA Age-Group National Championship while earning the ranking of top U.S. Amateur Off-Road Triathlete. In 2007 he turned professional and finished 7th place on the XTERRA America Tour in his first year in the pro ranks. In 2008 Cody has seen continued success in XTERRA racing while returning to his roots in mountain bike racing, winning several events including a Colorado State Championship and regaining his professional license in 2009.
Along the way, Cody obtained USA Triathlon and USA Cycling Coaches certification and formed his coaching business Endurance Performance Coaching. Through his experiences working with his coach Arnie Baker he found he loved the art and science of training for endurance sports. Being able assist others in improving their own performances makes for a very satisfying element to his own training and racing. Cody is looking forward to what the rest of his life in endurance sports has to offer as well all areas outside of sports!
