Happy Thanksgiving (a few days late). Last week completed my “prep” phase of training. That is training to train, readying my body for more specific work to come. On Thanksgiving I got out for a three and a half hour ride from Denver to Boulder and beyond with some riding bros. Adam and Rob. Our stretch of warm fall days came to an end on the Tuesday before after a few inches of snow fell. On Thursday for our ride the high temperature didn’t get out of the 20’s so it was a bit chilly needless to say.

Also just in time for the chilly weather was the delivery of my new training bike, a fully custom Serotta Legend SE. This full titanium bike will be my steed of choice all winter for putting in long miles on and off road in all weather conditions. I am pretty stoked on it as titanium is my preferred material for bicycle frames. The lightweight and compliant ride is unmatched by any other material in the industry. Then to make it highly versatile I had the geometry made to handle like a nimble road bike while maintaining the tire clearance and canti-brakes for off-road and foul weather usage with knobbies and fenders. Sweet!

My sweet new ride: Serotta Legend SE Custom
In all my years of riding and racing I have never had a custom built bike; it fits like a glove and tips the scales at just under 17 lbs. with road tires. I can now honestly say that there is nothing a like a new custom bike to get you out riding and putting in the miles. That being said, I am officially into my 2008 training program. The next three months will be spent building endurance and strength for the coming year. I’ll have more details on what I have in mind in future posts so stay tuned. Gotta go ride!
